Marty Stuff: Sock Puppet Madness 5/12/19

In this one-hour workshop, kids (and grown-ups) of all ages design and create the sock puppet of their wildest dreams! In a workshop that touches not only puppet-building, but character creation and the artist’s process, Marty will walk you through sketching both the puppet and its back story, and then artists of all ages will build what they’ve imagined with his assistance. Marty will demonstrate basic gluing and application techniques, and then he will answer questions and do demonstrations in real-time to help you execute your ideas. Each workshop concludes with a brief look at puppeteering your masterpiece. All ages (little ones with their grown-ups please). Pre-Registration required. 10 person cap. $25 (includes your very own sock puppet!)

About the Instructor:

Marty is an expert sock puppet maker. He is also a: writer, visual artist, performer, producer, teacher, local kook, and musician. He is best known for making up The Sock Puppet Portraits, writing the related book, "Sock Puppet Madness," and for performing with rock band/art collective/giant monster/sock puppet, Uncle Monsterface. He’s written four other published books and worked with cool folks like Nickelodeon, The Henson Foundation, Harry & The Potters,  many others, and mostly himself, running his own business of art sales and workshops for over a decade. It's true, he does lots of other stuff, too, including (but not limited to) making really excellent sandwiches and walking his dog.

Workshop includes:

-A wide assortment of nice and fluffy colorful socks prepped with a hard cardboard mouth, felted mouth interior, and fluff in their head. One beautiful blank slate for each participant!

-All the decorative craft foam you need.

-Sticky-backed foam for little artists, hot glue for big ones.

-A bunch of furs and boas for hair and details!

-Blank sock puppet ‘sketch paper’ and blank Bio Card for you to fill up with magic ideas!

Families, kids, and adults are all welcome to participate, the cost of the workshop covers the cost of one sock body and materials.
